An 8X2 metre painting depicts the activities carried on the Richmond River at the Port of Ballina, once the second busiest port on the NSW coast.

Models of ships which called at or plied their trade on the river are accompanied by historical accounts of the fate of so many lost on the bar or by enemy action in wartime.

Facsimile of a passenger ship cabin contains artifacts from one of these vessels and illustrates the passenger accommodation available to coastal travelers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Around the museum are many items recovered from wrecked vessels by salvage divers.
